SLOW / RAPID

A Reflection on the Value of Objects and Mass Production

S / R CHAIR

SUMMARY
The S / R chair merges the precise lines and proportions of sculpted ash made to last a lifetime, with the assembly of nothing but rough, interchangeable, and generic materials we normally throw away daily. It wants us to observe the fast pace of modern mass production.

In an age dominated by fast-moving objects, from fashion to furniture, the way we value and care for our possessions has undergone a radical shift. The rise of capitalism and globalization has paved the way for objects that are easily purchased and just as easily discarded.
It invites us to consider the impact of this shift and reflect on our relationship with the objects we surround ourselves with.

But even as we pause to contemplate this change, we cannot deny the allure of democracy that the rapid pace of modern manufacturing has given us. The S / R chair encourages us to seek balance, and find new ways to value and appreciate the objects that we make part of our lives.

ROLE
Solo project.

MADE WITH
Procreate, Miro.

APPLIED SKILLS
Sketching, Prototpying, Wood bending.
Exhibition design, planing and coordinating.
BREIF
Chimera. A hybrid creature, a merge of several beings which typically would live separate lives, possible even as enemies. It leaves a notion of seeking the unheard-of. The abrupt combination of aesthetical elements, functions or aspects of value.

SR / RESEARCH

The design space exploration was allowed considerable time and encompassed various areas of interest, including Design for All, Hostility, Culture, and Hierarchies.

Eventually, the exploration converged into three specific directions focusing on fast-moving objects, repairs, and degradation.
